চীনের উত্তর-পশ্চিমাঞ্চলে ভূমিকম্পে অন্তত ১১৬ জন নিহত এবং আরও ২২০ জন আহত হয়েছে। স্থানীয় সময় গতকাল সোমবার দিবাগত রাত ১২টার দিকে এ ভূমিকম্প আঘাত হানে। দেশটির রাষ্ট্রীয় গণমাধ্যমের প্রতিবেদনে এ তথ্য জানানো হয়েছে। খবর বিবিসির। চীনা কর্তৃপক্ষ জানিয়েছে, মধ্যরাতে গানসু প্রদেশে ৬ দশমিক ২ মাত্রার ভূমিকম্প আঘাত হেনেছে। এতে প্রতিবেশী কিংহাই প্রদেশেও ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত হয়েছে। হাজার হাজার উদ্ধারকারী প্রচ- ঠান্ডা আবহাওয়া মোকাবিলা করে মানুষদের সাহায্যের চেষ্টা করছেন। চীনের প্রেসিডেন্ট শি জিনপিং চীনের অন্যতম দরিদ্র অঞ্চল গানসুতে ভূমিকম্পের ঘটনায় পূর্ণ উদ্ধার তৎপরতা চালানোর নির্দেশ দিয়েছেন। জিশিশান কাউন্টি সবচেয়ে বেশি ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত এলাকা বলে ধারণা করা হচ্ছে। চীনা কর্তৃপক্ষ জানিয়েছে, গানসুতে ভূমিকম্পের রিখটার স্কেলে মাত্রা ছিল ৬ দশমিক ২। তবে, মার্কিন ভূতাত্ত্বিক জরিপ সংস্থা (ইউএসজিএস) জানায়, ভূমিকম্পটির মাত্রা ৫ দশমিক ৯ এবং এর উৎপত্তিস্থল ১০ কিলোমিটার গভীরে। এ ভূমিকম্পের পরে প্রায় ১০টি আফটারশক হয়েছে বলে স্থানীয় কর্তৃপক্ষ জানিয়েছে। সংবাদমাধ্যমের ফুটেজে দেখা গেছে, আহতদের হাসপাতালগুলোতে আনা হচ্ছে। অন্যদিকে, ধসে পড়া ভবনের ধ্বংসস্তূপে অনুসন্ধান করছেন উদ্ধারকারীরা। স্থানীয় জরুরি পরিষেবার সদস্যদের সহায়তার জন্য সরকার উদ্ধারকর্মীদের দল পাঠিয়েছে। এক বিবৃতিতে প্রেসিডেন্ট শি বলেন, ‘তল্লাশি ও উদ্ধার অভিযানের পাশাপাশি আহতদের সময়মতো চিকিৎসাসেবা প্রদান করতে এবং হতাহতের সংখ্যা কমাতে সব ধরনের প্রচেষ্টা চালাতে হবে।’ গত বুধবার গানসুর জিশিশান কাউন্টির স্থানীয় কর্তৃপক্ষ এক সংবাদ সম্মেলনে জানায়, গানসুতে ১০৫ জন নিহত হয়েছে এবং আরও ৯৬ জন আহত হয়েছে। কিংহাইতে আরও ১১ জন নিহত এবং ১২৪ জন আহত হয়েছে বলে জানিয়েছে রাষ্ট্রীয় গণমাধ্যম সিনহুয়া। স্থানীয় কর্তৃপক্ষ জনসাধারণকে ঘটনাস্থলের কাছে ভিড় না করার এবং সরকারি উদ্ধারকারী দলকে রাস্তা ছেড়ে দেওয়ার জন্য অনুরোধ করেছে। বিবিসির প্রতিবেদনে আরও বলা হয়, কয়েক ঘণ্টার ব্যবধানে গতকাল মঙ্গলবার ভোরে প্রতিবেশী জিনজিয়াংয়ে আরও একটি ভূমিকম্প আঘাত হানে। ৫ দশমিক ৫ মাত্রার এই ভূমিকম্পে ক্ষয়ক্ষতির পরিমাণ তাৎক্ষণিক নিশ্চিত হওয়া যায়নি। গত সেপ্টেম্বরে চীনের দক্ষিণ-পশ্চিমাঞ্চলীয় সিচুয়ান প্রদেশে ৬ দশমিক ৬ মাত্রার ভূমিকম্পে ৬০ জনেরও বেশি মানুষ নিহত হয়। গানসুতে ১৯২০ সালের এক ভূমিকম্পে দুই লাখের বেশি মানুষ নিহত হয়েছিল। এটি ছিল বিংশ শতাব্দীতে বিশ্বের সবচেয়ে ভয়াবহ ভূমিকম্প।
